Keyword traffic potential calculator

Traffic potential is the number of clicks a keyword can send at a given Google position. Multiply monthly search volume by the click-through rate for that position. The default rates here are editable starting assumptions, not measured figures, so change them to match your own Search Console data.

What this calculator uses

Why it matters

Not every keyword is worth the same effort. Estimating clicks at the position you can realistically reach helps you pick topics that pay back.

How to fix what it finds

  1. Use your own CTR by position from Search Console for the most honest numbers.
  2. Expect lower CTR when the results show ads, AI Overviews or many SERP features.
  3. Compare potential with difficulty before committing to a keyword.

Traffic potential calculator: common questions

Where do the default click-through rates come from?

They are rounded starting assumptions that follow the common shape of CTR curves: position one takes the largest share and it falls fast after that. Replace them with your own data.

Why is my real CTR lower?

Ads, AI Overviews, maps and other features push organic results down. Brand searches usually have higher CTR than generic ones.

Where do I get search volume?

Google Ads Keyword Planner, or inside RankMesh, which shows volume and your position for each tracked keyword.
