AI crawler tracking

AI crawler tracking for GPTBot, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot

Before an assistant can recommend you, its crawler has to read your pages. RankMesh shows you which AI bots come, what they read and where they hit a dead end.

What is AI crawler tracking?

AI crawler tracking records visits to your website from the bots that AI companies use to read the web, such as GPTBot, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot. It shows which pages they fetched, how often they come back, and which addresses they requested that returned an error, so you can make sure the pages you want cited are actually being read.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Add the RankMesh tracker

A small RankMesh tracker script on your site records visits and recognises known AI crawlers.

  2. Step 2

    Separate bots from people

AI crawler visits are counted apart from human visits, so neither number is inflated by the other.

  3. Step 3

    Spot the dead ends

Addresses that AI bots ask for and that do not exist are listed, each with a suggested redirect.

  4. Step 4

    Fix and watch

Send a fix to your website tasks with one click, then watch the bot come back to the right page.

What you get

What AI Crawler Tracking gives you, in plain words.

Visits by crawler

Which AI crawlers came this week and how often, with the last time each one was seen.

Pages they read

The pages AI bots fetch most, so you know what an assistant is likely to learn about you.

Broken addresses

Requests for pages that do not exist, with a one-click redirect suggestion.

AI assistant traffic

Visits from people who clicked through from an assistant, from your Google Analytics, shown separately.

Why does it matter which AI bots read my site?

An assistant can only cite what its crawler has read. If GPTBot never reaches your pricing or service pages, ChatGPT has less to go on when someone asks about your market. Crawler tracking tells you whether that reading is happening.

Do I need to change robots.txt?

Only if you are blocking AI crawlers you actually want. RankMesh's GEO audit checks your robots.txt and tells you which AI crawlers are allowed or blocked, so you can decide on purpose rather than by accident.

Which plans include it?

It is part of every paid plan: Self-Serve at $99 a month (₹10,000 in India), where your team runs RankMesh, and Managed at $399 a month (₹40,000 in India), where a RankMesh account manager runs it for you. Common questions

Which crawlers does RankMesh recognise?

The main AI crawlers, including GPTBot, ChatGPT-User, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and Google's and Bing's crawlers, identified by their published user agents.

Does the tracker slow my site down?

It is a small script that loads after the page content, so it does not block the page from showing.

Will it count bots as visitors in my analytics?

No. AI crawler visits are reported on their own, apart from human visits and apart from Google Analytics.
